Welcome to the Wegner Group

Light-controlled Systems

MaxSynBio Junior Research Group

In the group we take a bottom-up approach at synthetic biology and aim to control assemblies of building blocks (proteins, vesicles, synthetic cell-like compartments, cells etc.) with visible light, which provides non-invasive regulation with high spatial and temporal resolution. In our approach we use light dependent protein interactions as modular building blocks, which can be integrated into in vitro and in vivo systems to switch properties. Further, we use these interactions to self-assemble synthetic cell-like compartments and cells into higher ordered structures and to induce local and global dynamic processes including polarity and morphogenesis.
