An experimental PhD position in the Nano Interfaces Group led by Dr. Grazia Gonella in the Department of Molecular Spectroscopy at the Max Planck Institute for Polymer Research in Mainz is available immediately. The selected candidate will conduct cutting edge research at the interface of physics, chemistry, optics, and life science. In particular the interest is focused on the fundamental mechanisms behind the Interactions of Proteins/Peptides with Membranes. The experimental work will closely parallel modelling carried out by another group at the Institute.
The successful candidate will gain significant knowledge in nonlinear spectroscopy, classical surface science/colloid techniques. The Nano Interfaces Group is seeking a HIGHLY MOTIVATED PhD student with EXCELLENT CV and with a background in physical chemistry/chemical physics/optics, especially IR spectroscopy. Experience in laboratory automation, scientific programming, data analysis is a plus. Drive to get projects completed, enthusiasm for and capability of interdisciplinary work, excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment are a must. Records of creative research and scientific independence demonstrated by publications in peer-reviewed journals are preferred.
Salary for the appointment will be consistent with the Max Planck Society guidelines for PhD students.
