Prof. Kai A. I. Zhang Memorial Symposium

Following the untimely passing of Prof. Kai Zhang in May 2023 we will be hosting a memorial symposium at the Max Planck Institute for Polymer Research on 14th June 2024. This will be an opportunity to celebrate Kai's life and contribution to the fields of photocatalysis, porous materials and conjugated polymers. Kai was a passionate scientist who dedicated his life to creating new photocatalytic materials. The symposium will be an opportunity for Kai's close friends and family to see the impact he had on the scientific community, and to share stories and memories of Kai. To celebrate Kai's passion for science the symposium will feature invited speakers, including Kai's previous advisors and collaborators. The full programme will follow in due course. For more information please contact Dr. Calum Ferguson or Prof. Katharina Landfester.

Biography

Kai undertook his undergraduate and master's degrees in chemistry at the University of Cologne in Germany. Following this he completed his PhD in 2010 in the group of Professor Bernd Tieke in Cologne, and partly in the group of Professor Peter Skabara at the University of Strathclyde, Glasgow, UK, working on novel conjugated polymers for photovoltaic applications. Between 2011 and 2013 he was a postdoctoral researcher with Professor Markus Antonietti at the Max Planck Institute of Colloids and Interfaces in Potsdam, Germany, and in 2013, he then joined the Department of Physical Chemistry of Polymers under Prof. Katharina Landfester at the MPI-P as a research group leader. In 2019 Kai returned to China as a full professor at Fudan University in Shanghai.
