Jochen Gutmann studied chemistry at the "Technische Hochschule Darmstadt" from 1990-1996. In 1994-1995 he spend one year as a ERASMUS student at the University of Bristol (GB) where he obtained a M.Sc. in "Colloids and Interface Science", working with T. Cosgrove on the adsorption of cyclic polymers. In 1996 he received his diploma in chemistry working with W. Haase on the electronic structure of mixed valent, dinuclear iron complexes. In 1997 he joined the group of M. Stamm at the Max Planck Research in Mainz where worked on his PhD thesis investigating the structure formation in thin polymer blend films with surface sensitive scattering and scanning probe microscopy techniques. 2000 he finished his PhD and moved as a staff scientist to the Institute of Polymer Research Dresden. From 2001 to 2002 he worked as a PostDoc in the field of Materials Science at Cornell University together with U. Wiesner and S. Gruner. Since April 2002 he is working at the MPI for Polymer Research.
At the MPI he is focusing on X-ray scattering techniques for the structural characterization of complex multicomponent polymer composite materials. His current area of interest centers around the investigation of the structural and thermodynamic behavior of polymer(inorganic hybrid materials. |
