Research

My current research exists in ultrafast charge carrier dynamics in graphene. The photoresponse of graphene occurs in the picosecond (10-12 s) time scale, which provides an opportunity to apply graphene in high-speed data communication applications. [refer to: Graphene Flagship] I employ the femtosecond (10-15 s) time-resolved terahertz (THz) spectroscopy to investigate charge carrier phenomena at the nanoscale. [refer to: Ulbricht, R., et al Rev. Mod. Phys. 83, 543–586 (2011)] My PhD project offers a fundamental understanding to implement graphene into prospective optoelectronics, such as photodetector for imaging, light-emitting diode (LED) for next-generation display, and antenna for Wi-Fi receivers and related high-speed data communication devices.

More generally, I have broadened interests and experiences in: I. Understanding fundamental charge carrier dynamics of optoelectronic materials; II. Manipulating functional properties and characterization of two-dimensional (2D) materials (graphene and related materials); III. Exploring production technologies and unique features of novel semiconductor materials, towards electronic and optoelectronic applications; IV. Implementing mathematical, digital, and computational methods to solve semiconductor-related problems.
