The Department of Synthesis of Macromolecules develops innovative synthesis concepts to prepare functional macromolecules by complex molecular design strategies to solve future challenges in biomedicine and material science. To achieve the overarching goal, we aim to synthesize macromolecular architectures with:
(1) High degree of structural precision,
(2) synergistic characteristics due to multifunctionalization,
(3) controlled assembly by bridging length scales and
(4) adaptive features responding to their respective nano- or microenvironments.
Our vision is to create polymeric materials that can fulfill challenging tasks by controlling interactions with their surroundings to revolutionize e.g. molecular imaging and therapy of severe diseases.
