PhD position (m/f/d): Organic Thin-Film Transistors

Ausschreibungsnummer:

Stellenangebot vom 23. Juli 2020

About the group:

The Minerva Fast Track group led by Dr. Ulrike Kraft in the Department of Molecular Electronics at the Max Planck Institute for Polymer Research in Mainz is looking for a highly motivated and curiosity-driven PhD student with interest in the chemistry and physics of organic electronic materials and devices.

At the interface of materials science, physics and chemistry, we are interested in charge transport, charge trapping and electronic interfaces in organic transistors, their operational and environmental stability as well as the addition of functional additives (e.g. molecular switches) into polymer devices to incorporate additional functionalities and address current and future challenges in low-cost and flexible electronics.

The selected candidate will conduct cutting edge research at the interface of physics, chemistry, and materials science. As part of the Department of Molecular Electronics led by Prof. Paul Blom, the successful candidate will benefit from a stimulating research environment in a diverse and interdisciplinary team with access to state-of-the–art facilities.

The ideal candidate:

We are looking for a highly motivated student with experimental background and a Master’s degree (or equivalent) either in physics, materials science, chemistry, polymer science or related fields. Proficiency in spoken and written English is mandatory. Previous experience with organic electronic materials, device fabrication and characterization is an advantage.

The starting date of the position is flexible within autumn/winter 2020.

Your Job/PhD training

will involve device fabrication (organic thin films transistors), surface engineering (e.g. modification of inorganic interfaces with self-assembled monolayers of organic molecules), morphological, chemical, electrical and optical characterization of thin-films and devices as well as the presentation of your research in meetings/conferences and the publication of your results in peer reviewed journals.

How to apply:

Please send your application including (i) a cover letter (describing your motivation and how your background would fit to this position), (ii) your CV, (iii) diploma/degree/mark sheet (official transcript), (iv) reference letters. Please send all documents via e-mail as single pdf-file to kraftu@mpip-mainz.mpg.de. Applications will be considered until the position is filled.

The Max Planck Society is committed to increasing the participation of qualified personnel with disabilities and especially encourages them to apply. The Max Planck Society is also a proponent for gender equality and encourages applications from all backgrounds.
