PD/PhD positions in interfacial water research (theoretical/experimental)

Job Code:

Job Offer from September 24, 2020

The Surface Spectroscopy Group (Dr. Yuki Nagata and Prof. Mischa Bonn) at the Max Planck Institute for Polymer Research employs advanced experimental/theoretical methods to probe the structure and dynamics of interfacial water at the molecular level. We are looking for highly motivated PD/PhD candidates who are interested in the research of interfacial water. The successful candidates will be part of the MaxWater initiative of the Max Planck Society (https://www.maxwater.mpg.de/).

Applicants for the theory sub-group must possess a strong background in molecular dynamics simulation, ab initio calculation, and/or machine learning approaches. For the position in the experimental sub-group, a strong background in spectroscopy is desired. The project can be chosen from the topics of

1. Structure and dynamics of water under the non-equilibrium condition (experiment)

2. Theoretical modeling of the surface specific vibrational spectroscopy (simulation)

3. Tracking interfacial chemical reactions at water interfaces (experiment).

The past research activity in our group is summarized in the following reviews.
1.    Chem. Rev. 120, 3633 (2020)
2.    Acc. Chem. Res. 52, 1006 (2019)

If you are interested in this job, please send an application to Dr. Yuki Nagata (nagata@mpip-mainz.mpg.de). We shall start reviewing the applications from Nov. 1, 2020. The starting date is flexible.
