Student position for coding, programming, automization

Job Offer from July 28, 2022

About the group and the project:

The Department of Molecular Spectroscopy at the Max Planck Institute for Polymer Research in Mainz is looking for a highly motivated and curiosity-driven student with interest in coding, programming and automatization.

The main goal is to improve the current existing cutting-edge setups of our department and bring them to a new level: no more manual actions should be performed when not needed, leaving to the PC most of the control of the experiment.

This is beneficial for countless reasons, the most important are:

  • Assure the exact reproducibility of the experiment
  • Assure more precision
  • Assure the maximum efficiency in terms of time
  • Assure no perturbation of the climate-controlled room in which the experiment are performed

The selected candidate will take part and be exposed to research in physics, chemistry, and materials science. As part of the Department of Molecular Spectroscopy led by Prof. Dr. Mischa Bonn, the successful candidate will benefit from a stimulating research environment in a diverse and interdisciplinary team with access to state-of-the–art facilities.

The ideal candidate:

We are looking for a highly motivated student with background either in physics, materials science, chemistry, polymer science or related fields. Previous experimental experience as well as knowledge of Python, LabVIEW and/or Arduino is an advantage. Proficiency in spoken and written English is mandatory.

The starting date of the position is flexible within autumn/winter 2022 (earliest September 2022).
