Sustainability
The Energie Commission at the MPI-P
Resource efficiency and environmental awareness have been highly valued at MPIP for decades. In 2022, a permanent institution was established for this purpose: the Energy Commission. Since then, monthly energy consumption has been monitored and energy-saving projects discussed. The Energy Commission is composed of an interdisciplinary team of scientists and technicians from all hierarchical levels.
And the results are impressive. Electricity consumption has been reduced by 20% and heat consumption by as much as 25%. These outstanding results were achieved through both organizational and technical measures. Our energy management efforts will be consolidated and formalized through DIN EN ISO 50.001 certification in 2026.
In addition to efficiency measures, we are also working on reducing or eliminating CO2 emissions. From 2028, we will be purchasing green electricity, and the proportion of renewable energy in the district heating we purchase will also increase steadily.
🌱 Working together for a sustainable future
Resource efficiency and environmental awareness have been a high priority at the MPIP for decades. With the establishment of the Energy Commission in 2022, an institutional framework was created to systematically promote these values. The interdisciplinary team of scientists and technicians from all hierarchical levels meets monthly to analyze energy consumption and identify potential savings.
