PhD Program Structure
A doctoral project at the Max Planck Institute for Polymer Research (MPIP) is centered on independent research. Doctoral researchers work on cutting-edge topics connected to the research mission of the institute.
Doctoral research at MPIP typically spans three to four years and combines independent scientific work with structured supervision and training opportunities.
Research Project
Each doctoral researcher conducts an original research project within one of the institute’s departments or independent research groups. Projects may involve experimental or theoretical approaches and often combine multiple scientific disciplines.
Doctoral researchers are fully integrated into the scientific life of their research group or department and participate in:
regular group meetings
project discussions with supervisors
collaborations with other research groups
national and international conferences
Scientific Exchange
The interdisciplinary structure of the institute encourages interaction between researchers from different scientific backgrounds. Doctoral researchers regularly attend seminars, lectures, and scientific events that promote discussion and collaboration across departments.
