PhD/Postdoc position: Biocatalysts for Photogenerated Cascade Reactions and Phototherapy

Job Offer from November 06, 2023

To strengthen the research in the field of photocatalytic cascade reactions and phototherapic applications, we are currently looking for highly motivated and curiosity-driven PhD or Postdoc candidates with an excellent academic record and strong hands-on expertise in Biology (specifically involving processing/modification/characterization of enzymes), Phototherapy or Colloidal science.

About the project

Within this research project, the successful candidate will be supervised or responsible for designing/purifying/modifying novel enzymatic nanostructures towards initiating new cascaded reactions in artificial and living cells and enhancing the resulting reaction activity/selectivity/stability in local environment. You will be part of the Physical Chemistry of Polymers department at the MPI-P, led by Prof. Dr. Katharina Landfester.

Job requirements

For this position, we seek highly enthusiastic and strongly motivated candidates with a Master degree for PhD applicants, or a PhD degree & rich experience for Postdoc applicants, in Biology, Biomedical Engineering, Chemistry Engineering, or similar. The selected candidate will conduct cutting-edge research at the interface of biology, chemistry, materials science and physics within a stimulating research environment and a diverse and interdisciplinary team with access to state-of-the–art facilities. The working language at the Max Planck Institute for Polymer Research is English. Therefore, good communication skills in English (both written and spoken) are also required.

The Max Planck Society is committed to employing more individuals with disabilities. The Society seeks to increase the number of women in areas where they are underrepresented, and therefore explicitly encourages women to apply.

The position is available now. Remuneration will be according to the collective wage agreement for the public service (TVöD), 13 TV-B

Your application

Applications should be sent by e-mail to: jobapplication-landfestergroup@... and cc to: shiy@mpip-mainz.mpg.de, should indicate in the subject line “Application: Biocatalysts”, and must include the following:

  1. A letter of motivation (max. 1 page), clearly stating the specific interest of the candidate to join the group and work on this project, his/her career goals, etc.
