Baking Against Flooding

July 10, 2013

At the MPI-P it’s a well-established tradition to have a cake bazaar to help victims of natural disasters.  This tradition was very lively again on July 2nd. A few days before the committee of the MPI-P works council had asked the employees to help the victims of the recent bad flooding by baking cakes and sell them to collect money. Many colleagues came together to have a coffee and cake in the MPI-P foyer and feed the piggy banks. Finally a total amount of more than 790 Euro was earned. This money was directly spent to the kindergarten Kinder(t)räume in Halle an der Saale. There, the ground floor of the children daycare facility was flooded and the playground was completely devastated by the river Saale.

Before, also many children of employees of the two Max-Planck Institutes in Halle used to spent their time at Kinder(t)räume. The money from the colleagues in Mainz is meant to support the restoration and to offer a nice daycare facility to the children again.

Cake bazaars at MPI-P have already provided very helpful donations for the earthquake victims in Haiti (2010) and for the hospice for children “Bärenherz” (2012).
Therefore, we like to express a grateful acknowledgement to the MPI-P bakers and the committee members.
