Yuri Avlasevich received his MSci in Organic Chemistry in 1993 from the Belarusian State University, and his PhD in Polymer Chemistry in 2000 from the Institute of Physical Organic Chemistry, National Academy of Sciences (both in Minsk, Belarus). He was visiting scientist at the Institute of Physical Chemistry in Warsaw, Poland, at the Lund University, Sweden, at the Sofia University, Bulgaria, and at the Institute of General Botany, University of Mainz. In 2003 he joined the Synthetic Chemistry Group at Max Planck Institute for Polymer Research, and moved to the Physical Chemistry of Polymers Group in 2009. His current research topics include synthesis of functional and upconverting dyes, preparation and investigation of soft matter based upconversion sensors, and industrial and medical applications of nanocontainers.
