Postdoctoral researcher position (m/f/d): Protein detection using organic transistors

The Minerva Fast Track group led by Dr. Ulrike Kraft in the Department of Molecular Electronics at the Max Planck Institute for Polymer Research in Mainz is inviting applications for a position as

Postdoctoral Researcher

starting as soon as possible.

The selected candidate will conduct cutting edge research at the interface of physics and (bio)chemistry. As part of the Department of Molecular Electronics led by Prof. Paul Blom, the successful candidate will benefit from a stimulating research environment in a diverse and interdisciplinary team with access to state-of-the–art facilities.

The ideal candidate:

The candidate should have a strong interest in device physics, organic electronics, surface functionalization and sensing. Practical skills on electrical characterization, surface functionalization, organic electronic devices as well as cleanroom-based fabrication processes are highly appreciated. Furthermore, the ability to work on an interdisciplinary subject, analytical but creative thinking are characteristics of a candidate that are also appreciated. The successful candidate will develop and study functionalized biosensors based on organic transistors for protein detection (e.g. the S spike protein of COVID 19).

Job requirements

The essential requirements for this post are as follows:

  • A PhD (or equivalent) in Chemistry, Physics, Material Science, Biophysics or closely aligned disciplines
  • Motivation for inter-disciplinary research

The appointment will be for 1.5 years on a project funded by the VW foundation. The salary and social benefits are based on the German TVöD scale for public employees, depending on experience. Working scientific language at the Max Planck Institute for Polymer Research is English. For more information, please contact Dr. Ulrike Kraft (kraftu@mpip-mainz.mpg.de).

Application:

Please send your application including (i) a cover letter (describing your motivation, your background and research achievements and interests), (ii) your CV, (iii) diploma/certificates, grade transcripts or equivalent record of excellent academic performance, (iv) 2 references with contact information

Please send all documents via e-mail as single pdf-file to kraftu@mpip-mainz.mpg.de. Applications will be considered until the position is filled.
