PD Dr. Kostas Daoulas

Kostas Ch. Daoulas obtained his BSc and MSc from the Physics Department of Moscow State University in 1994. In 2001 he obtained his PhD in physics working at the ICE-HT Institute of the Foundation for Research and Technology Hellas (FORTH), with the group of Vlasis Mavrantzas. The research focused on theoretical study of dense polymeric liquids at surfaces and interfaces with advanced atomistic Monte Carlo algorithms. He stayed at ICE-HT as a postdoc till 2005, when he joined the group of Marcus Mϋller first at the University of Wisconsin Madison and then at the Institute for Theoretical Physics, Georg-August-University Göttingen, Germany. He obtained his Habilitation in physics from the Georg-August-University of Göttingen in 2011 for studying self-assembly in soft matter with simulation techniques bridging particle-based and field-theoretical descriptions. Currently he is a group leader at the Theory Department of Max Planck Institute for Polymer Research, Mainz, Germany.

Research Interests

Mesoscopic modeling of soft matter, with an emphasis on self-assembly phenomena. Materials of interest include liquid crystalline polymers, chiral macromolecules, block-copolymers and blends, polymer solutions, conjugated polymers, amphiphilic membranes and vesicles.
Development of special particle-based modeling techniques linked to continuum phase-field models and classical density functional theory of liquids.
Particle-based Monte Carlo algorithms and numerical field-theoretical approaches.
