French-German Prize for Klaus Müllen

Mulhouse/Mainz. The French chemical society (Société Chimique de France – SCF) has awarded the French-German Prize to Klaus Müllen. The director of the Max Planck Institute for Polymer Research received the award in a ceremony held in Mulhouse on 27th May 2013. The SCF justifies its decision by describing Klaus Müllen as one of the best and most active German scientists nowadays. His contribution to chemical research is outstanding. In the field of polymer synthesis he has made considerable progress, and thus he has developed numerous materials for optoelectronic components, memories, and nanostructures. Furthermore, Müllen has significantly contributed to the exchange between German and French scientists.
The French-German Prize is conected with the Nobel Prize winners Victor Grignard and Georg Wittig. The award winner is invited to hold a series of lectures of the same name in different scientific institutions in France.
Together with its German counterpart – the German Chemical Society (GDCh) – the SCF endeavors to achieve a scientific exchange for chemical research conducted in both countries.
