Four scientists receive “Chinese Government Award for Outstanding Self-financed Students Abroad 2015”
The PhD students Biao Kang, Zhaoyang Liu, Junzhi Liu and Debin Xia have received the 2015 prize of the Chinese Scholarship Council. The award recognizes their outstanding academic achievements during their self-financed research stay at the Max Planck Institute for Polymer Research (MPI-P).
The award ceremony took place in Berlin on May 7, 2016, where 32 Chinese scientists living and researching in Germany have been granted the prize for their outstanding work. Biao Kang, researcher at the MPI-P in the group of Prof. Dr. Katharina Landfester was one of them. For his PhD project he used different saccharides to construct and modify nanocapsules in a miniemulsion system, in order to use them for a targeted drug delivery.

In the department of the emeritus Prof. Dr. Klaus Müllen three scientists have received the award: Junzhi Liu wrote his doctoral thesis on "Controlling the Edges: From Nanographenes Towards to Graphene Nanoribbons". Xia Debin completed his PhD thesis on "Novel Organic Semiconductors and their Applications in Electronics". The third winner, Zhaoyang Liu, focuses in his doctoral thesis on the improvement of the power density of supercapacitors by controlling the mesopores of pseudocapacitive polymers on graphene surfaces.
