International Symposium of the CRC1066

Exchange on the latest developments in nanomedical tumor immunotherapy

On January 24 and 25, 2025, the international symposium of the Collaborative Research Center (SFB) 1066 “Nanomaterials for Tumor Immunotherapy” took place at the Erbacher Hof in Mainz. Researchers from all over the world came together to discuss the latest developments in nanomedical tumor immunotherapy and share groundbreaking findings.

Founded in 2013, the SFB 1066 is dedicated to the development of innovative, multifunctional nanoparticulate drug carriers for tumor immunotherapy. The aim is to activate the immune system of tumor patients in such a way that tumors are specifically recognized and destroyed by the body's own immune defense.

With over 500 publications and groundbreaking therapeutic approaches, the SFB has contributed significantly to the further development of nanomedicine. Funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG), the project will end after twelve years of successful research in mid-2025.

The symposium presented a high-level scientific program with talks by leading international experts. In his opening remarks, Minister Hoch emphasized the importance of interdisciplinary research and the collaboration between science and industry in the field of nanomaterials: “Immunotherapy has become one of the most important cancer treatments, and its further development using nanomaterials offers the opportunity to make this therapy even more effective and precise.”
