Master Project (m/f/d):  Organic Thin-Film Transistors

Job Offer from July 05, 2022

About the group and the project:

The Minerva Fast Track group led by Dr. Ulrike Kraft in the Department of Molecular Electronics at the Max Planck Institute for Polymer Research in Mainz is looking for a highly motivated and curiosity-driven Master student with interest in the chemistry and physics of organic electronic materials and devices.

At the interface of materials science, physics and chemistry, we are interested in charge transport, charge trapping and electronic interfaces in organic transistors, their operational and environmental stability as well as the addition of functional additives (e.g. molecular switches) into polymer devices to incorporate additional functionalities and address current and future challenges in flexible electronics. The selected candidate will conduct cutting edge research at the interface of physics, chemistry, and materials science. As part of the Department of Molecular Electronics led by Prof. Paul Blom, the successful candidate will benefit from a stimulating research environment in a diverse and interdisciplinary team with access to state-of-the–art facilities.

The ideal candidate:

We are looking for a highly motivated student with background either in physics, materials science, chemistry, polymer science or related fields. Previous experimental experience is an advantage. Proficiency in spoken and written English or German is mandatory.

The starting date of the position is flexible within autumn/winter 2022 (earliest September 2022).

Your tasks and techniques you will learn

will involve device fabrication (organic thin films transistors), surface engineering (e.g. modification of inorganic interfaces with self-assembled monolayers of organic molecules), morphological, chemical, electrical and optical characterization of thin-films and devices as well as the presentation of your research in weekly meetings.

How to apply:

Please send your application including (i) an application letter, (ii) your CV, (iii) bachelor certificate/mark sheet (official transcript). Please send all documents via e-mail as single pdf-file to kraftu@mpip-mainz.mpg.de. Applications will be considered until the position is filled.

Salary for the appointment will be consistent with the Max Planck Society guidelines for Master students.
